Welcome, newcomers! Start at the beginning to read about Mia's initial diagnosis.
This started out as Mia's journey to her miracle. And, has now become JJ's journey, too.
Mia (Extended Oligoarthritis)
It all started with a swollen big toe at 15 months old. At 18 months, she started walking and we noticed her knee was the size of a tennis ball and she was limping. At 22 months old, she was officially diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA).
She is eight-years-old now and has dealt with this autoimmune disorder for over three years now.
JJ (Oligoarthritis)
He has never had joint issues...until recently. It started with knee pain about nine months ago, at age 3. Then in March 2011, he started having toe pain and then elbow pain two weeks later.
A trip to the rheumatologist confirmed everything - we have two kids diagnosed with JRA. JJ is now seven-years-old.
BUT, we have been able to control JJ's arthritis through diet! You can read about how things changed for him here.
This is their journey to complete and total health. This is their story about overcoming JRA. This will be their miracle to tell one day.
Me
I am their mother and will continue to fight....
"They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong." (Psalm 73:4, NIV).
What is Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthitis and What Causes It?
Did you know, nearly 300,000 children in the United States have some sort of arthritis. The most prevalent form of juvenile arthritis, an autoimmune disease, is juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, or JRA. Arthritis can be short-term — lasting for just a few weeks or months, then going away forever — or it can be chronic and last for months or years. In rare cases, it can last a lifetime.
